The Calma Teat Calma is an innovative feeding solution designed for breastfed babies. It does not interfere with breastfeeding and lets your baby feed the way they learned at the breast, which makes switching from breast to Calma and back easy Calma close to breastfeeding The Medela Calma is designed exclusively as an alternative to breastfeeding for mums wishing to feed their babies with breast milk. It was developed in cooperation with breastfeeding experts from the Hartmann Human Lactation Research Group at the University of Western Australia. Calma allows your baby to suck, swallow and breathe just as they learned on the breast: your baby can drink, pause and breathe in a natural rhythm, remaining calm and settled, just like on the breast your baby needs to create a vacuum to start the milk flow, just like they do while breastfeeding your baby can maintain their natural sucking behaviour, allowing an easy transition from breast to Calma and back to breast again Introducing Calma: Designed exclusively for breastmilk feeding. Switching from bottle back to breast has never been easier. Calma was developed using evidence-based research on babies’ natural feeding behavior so you can enjoy your breastfeeding bond longer. With Calma, the milk will only flow if your baby works and creates vacuum to remove the milk. This enables the feeding behavior learned at the breast to be used with Calma. BPA-free: Safe for baby Vented nipple: Helps reduce gassiness as the bottle is vented through our unique air control system. Natural feeding behavior: Supports easy transition from bottle to breast. Research has shown that with Calma, your baby is able to maintain the learned feeding behavior that your baby exhibits when breastfeeding Flow control valve: Allows baby to control milk flow. Milk only flows when baby creates a vacuum. Calma doesn’t drip: You can turn Calma upside down and it still won’t drip. Your baby needs to apply a certain level of vacuum in order to get milk out One size/shape nipple: For all stages of breastmilk feeding. The flow, shape and length of Calma are designed to suit your baby’s needs as your baby grows Compatible with all Medela breastpump bottles Breastfeeding must be well established before introducing Calma FAQs Why is Calma available in only 1 size? Multiple nipple sizes are not required as the baby controls the flow of milk through vacuum. The baby will apply more or less vacuum to Calma as its need for milk changes throughout breastfeeding duration. Is Calma compatible with all Medela bottles/containers? Calma is compatible with all Medela containers, including the Colostrum containers, 80 ml, 5 oz and 8 oz bottles. Can Calma only be used with breastmilk? Calma has been designed to be exclusively used with breastmilk and as such we cannot attest to Calma being used with other food. Can Calma be used with other manufacturer’s bottles on the market? Calma has been designed to be used with Medela’s bottles and containers. We have not done testing on other manufacturer’s containers. You may find that you can thread Calma onto other bottles but you may find that this combination may leak or cause other issues. We do not recommend using Calma with any other manufacturer containers.
